Mechanism of Action:

Granisetron relieves nausea and vomiting by inhibiting serotonin (5-HT3) receptors in the brain and gastrointestinal system.

Uses:

·       Used occasionally to treat nausea caused on by radiation therapy.

Dosage and Administration:

How to use this Medication?

Granisetron extended-release injection is a liquid that is administered subcutaneously (under the skin), while Granisetron immediate-release injection is a solution (liquid) that is administered intravenously (into a vein). Granisetron immediate-release and extended-release injections are typically administered by a medical professional in a hospital or clinic within 30 minutes prior to the start of chemotherapy in order to avoid nausea and vomiting brought on by the treatment. Granisetron immediate-release is typically administered during surgery in order to avoid postoperative nausea and vomiting. Granisetron is administered as soon as post-operative nausea and vomiting start in order to manage these symptoms.
