Mechanism of Action:

Tenecteplase, also known as Tenectase, functions as a thrombolytic drug by encouraging fibrinolysis, which breaks down blood clots. It is tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) in a genetically altered form that attaches itself to plasminogen and transforms it into active plasmin. The primary structural element of blood clots, fibrin, is broken down by the enzyme plasmin. Tenecteplase breaks down a blood clot and restores blood flow to the damaged area by binding selectively to fibrin in the clot and converting plasminogen into plasmin. Tenecteplase can be administered as a single intravenous bolus over a brief period of time since it has a longer half-life and a higher specificity for fibrin-bound plasminogen than native tPA.
