Composition: Aflibercept

Mechanism of Action:

Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) is inhibited by aflibercept. By binding to VEGF-A, VEGF-B, and Placental Growth Factor (PlGF), it functions as a decoy receptor that stops these proteins from connecting with their native receptors on the surface of endothelial cells. This lessens vascular leakage in the eye and stops blood vessels from growing abnormally.

Uses:

·       Neovascular (Wet) Age-Related Macular Degeneration

·       Diabetic Macular Edema

·       Macular Edema following Retinal Vein Occlusion

·       Myopic Choroidal Neovascularization

Dosage and Administration:

A monthly intravitreal injection of 2 mg (0.05 mL) for the first three months, then one injection every two months after that. A treat-and-extend strategy can be advantageous for certain patients.
