Pegadria 50mg Injection contains Pegylated Liposomal Doxorubicin, an anthracycline-type chemotherapy drug commonly used to treat various cancers such as breast cancer, leukemia, lymphomas, and more.

Brand Name: Pegadria

Composition: Pegylated Liposomal Doxorubicin

Mechanism of Action:

The main way that the anthracycline antibiotic doxorubicin prevents cancer is by intercalating into DNA and blocking the topoisomerase II enzyme. This interference ultimately results in the death of cancer cells by interfering with transcription and DNA replication. A liposomal and pegylated version of doxorubicin has been created to enhance its therapeutic characteristics. Through the increased permeability and retention (EPR) effect, this formulation improves targeted delivery to tumor sites while notably lowering cardiotoxicity and other systemic side effects linked to traditional doxorubicin therapy.

Uses:

  • Breast cancer
  • Ovarian cancer
  • AIDS-related Kaposi’s sarcoma
  • Leukemia
  • Sarcoma

Dosage and Administration:

Intravenous (IV) infusion is the method of administration. The patient's body surface area and the kind of cancer being treated are taken into consideration while determining the dosage.

Side Effects:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Hair loss
  • Diarrhea
  • Weight gain
  • Injection site reactions
  • Fatigue
  • Skin rash
  • Mouth sores
  • Low blood cell counts.
